Context: I have realised that most clients have limited data analytical skills in house and often not oriented to business. And I think consultants can enrich the value of our projects by adding deep data analysis.
It would be highly valuable if you could recommend some reading material about the topic.
I would start by learning sql, this will provide the foundations for data analysis, and help you scale beyond spreadsheets. Next I would learn one of the data visualisation packages (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik) as this will allow you to analyse large volumes of data, fast.
After this, it’s entirely down to what you want to do. SAS and are R are good for statistical analytics, with the latter being more common as it’s open source. Python is usually favoured by the data engineers
First thing you need is the business domain expertise .Then excel,SQL ,Tableau etc will help .R /Python are for more serious statistical modeling jobs . The basic regression and other things can be done in excel and many other tools
You can also work on improving your knowledge around statistics because statistics is the base of the pyramid on which you will be running various data analytics algorithms.
It highly depends on what wou want to Analyse.
If you want to do analytics on Natural Language R provides some specific capabilities for this.
Anyway, to understand what the tools do and provide you first of all should acquire very good knowledge in statistics.
If it is to be oriented to business, knowledge and skills around Financial Modelling and Analysis and how to integrate results from other Analytics to this might be a plus.
