Thank you for your question, any technology and any type of career regardless of what field requires a successful skilled management to make things work. Making a success story doesn’t necessarily need someone in the exact field to succeed, but needs someone intelligent, have a will power and determination to deliver at the end if the day. While my BS degree is in Computer applications and systems, with skills to program over 9 computer languages, still managed to make the study for Kuwait eGov, and KIN study the information highway for Kuwait a project managed now by ministry of communications, rebuild Kuwait Stock Exchange basic network infrastructure, and put the plan and executed A2Z the disaster recovery site and went live with it, setup the standards for IT in the government for all IT sectors in Kuwait and the list goes on. Add to all of that an MBA in general management and strategies, an added value. So 5G is just another project to me and I always deliver. Thank you. I hope you got the answer you are looking for. Regards, Salah Aljumah
Project Management helps with identifying dependencies and brings an important element of ‘team-work’ or’ inter-dependent’ tasks and often times one is not an expert in underlying technology or methods associated with the tasks carried out . IoT needs inter disciplinary work and coordination for e.g needs expertise drawn-up from different disciplines and a project manager with good understanding /appreciation of which expertise to engage, when to engage will be able to put a cohesive plan together identifying dependencies e.g. you could have a separate task of delivering standardized output of images from a camera that can be fed into another system to determine the location based on image mapping. A professional with Project management background is probably in a better shape to ensure that relevant expertise is engaged in ensuring that a camera puts out images in a standard format, size that can then be fed as input to different systems for further processing and enduser consumption.
Thanks for the question, Rafael! I’ll keep my answer short.
At first, you may aware a project manager must have a very good management skill (e.g., Team Building, Influencing, Communication, etc) & technical skill (e.g., Planning, Risk Management, etc) on project management and a bit technical skill on the ultimate output (product/service) of the project. Now, the output may be a IoT solution, a Software, or 5G roll-out but it is not necessary the project manager should have very vast technical knowledge on this subject matter but he can gain knowledge in following way:
- Shadowing another project manager who is managing project related to IoT/5G on his/her crisis moment.
- Reading relevant material, articles, whitepaper on the subject matter [Now-a-days information is available in internet)
- By attending online training - LinkedIn and Udemy has lot’s of cost effective training on IoT/5G
- Last but not the least, through classroom training - IoT is a buzz word so there are lots of classroom training also.
