Hi Mabel, the approach i took has been to focus on a specific field of data analytics. Data science is a huge industry and you cannot be skilled in all. My suggestion is to try and find your area that is of most interest and become an expert in it. I decided early in my career to be more management orientated so my programming skills is very limited. That is one area i regret i did not spend more time on. Without the basics you cannot truelly be an allrounder.
Hope this helps you
Thank you Pieter, very helpful
Hi Mabel,
Another approach, the one I have used, is to have a good understanding of all the pieces that required to be a good data scientist e.g. coding, probability&stats, understanding the source of the information, data wrangling, NLP,AI/ML models and then focus on the aspect that thrill you most. From my point of view the DS is the one needs an overview of the problem because needs to interact with different players. He/She is the one needs to understand everyone and translate the information. It’s a forma mantis too, I love to have the full picture of the problem and then I can focus on specific details.
